art = magic
Welcome to the liminal space of my mind.
This is where I channel shit from the ether. Where I alchemize trauma into transcendence. Where I post the occasional bathroom selfie.1
I'm a biracial, first-generation American filmmaker, writer, and creative mystic. I’m a Sundance Fellow and an Emmy nominee. I’ve directed one feature, one episode of a documentary series, and a bunch of short films.
You can learn more about me and my work here.
I also study tarot, am obsessed with Jungian dream analysis, and may have been born into a cult.2
Here you’ll find essays — sometimes personal, sometimes not — film recs and/or analyses, general musings on creativity, dreams, the intersection of technology, magic, and religion, etc.
I can’t promise a linear path ahead,3 but I can promise a vibe.
I think creativity is akin to magic.
So I guess makes A Woman Under the Influence my grimoire.
Under the influence of what?
Depends on the day.
Join me, you won’t regret it!4
xoxo,
Tara

Okay this is unverified and, frankly, was disputed by my own parents, but they did admit that we moved to an apartment above their guru’s ashram in Queens and also that I was known as the “ashram baby” so honestly what other conclusion am I supposed to draw?
In this economy?!
This is what my parents’ guru said to make them move to Queens (joking)
